Comfort and Convenience

One of the big differences between these two models is seating capacity. While the BMW seats five, the Acura MDX has room for seven. Even though the two models have different configurations, the Acura MDX is competitive when it comes to space. This SUV boasts more legroom and shoulder room in the first two rows even though it has a third row to factor in. Surprisingly, the 2026 Acura MDX also provides a slightly smaller turning diameter, making it easier to fit into and out of tight spaces. With the third-row seats folded, it has more cargo space than the BMW. This space increases when you fold the second row as well with 95 cubic feet for the MDX and 72.3 cubic feet for the BMW. Heated and ventilated front seats with 16-way power adjustment and nine massage settings are standard with an upper trim. Ventilated front seats are an upgrade for the BMW SUV.

Tech and Safety

While Acura and BMW put a focus on safety and technology, they don’t go about it the same way. For instance, Google built-in is standard on the 2026 Acura MDX while it’s not available on the 2026 BMW X5. Both models include a premium audio system, but Acura offers the better choice with Bang & Olufsen 19-speaker system over the HiFi Sound System with ten speakers for the X5. A panoramic moonroof is standard for both models. The Acura MDX also has a standard head-up display, which is only available on the BMW with a package upgrade. Acura also includes five selectable driving modes for a personalized experience with three for the X5. Both SUVs provide many of the same safety systems, such as blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and anti-collision system.

Other Details

These two SUVs provide many of the same features, such as leather upholstery and automatic climate control. The Acura has a three-zone system, which complements the three rows to ensure every passenger can have the correct temperature settings. A remote engine starter and garage door opener are standard for the MDX and not available for the X5. Rain-sensing wipers and rear wipers are standard for both models to be practical for busy families.
